Bio —

In addition to his family, Spencer has many passions in life. A long-time love has been for the outdoors, in particular mountain biking. Another is home renovations and other such projects. Spencer has had many opportunities to work with his hands and learn new skills to solve problems. This includes employment at a cabinet shop where he would build, paint, and install custom cabinets. Spencer also carried the title of operations manager—facilitating and directing the care of grounds and buildings for two school campuses simultaneously.

Spencer attended the competitive BFA program at the University of Utah where he paid for every penny of his tuition by working multiple jobs. He gained design experience early on with small freelance projects and working for the student government at the U of U as a graphic designer.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Graphic Design—as well as the high esteem of his classmates and professors. Immediately out of school, Spencer landed a job at Fluid, a small but award-winning agency right out of his hometown in Bountiful, Utah. This is where the rubber hit the road. He got his fair share of opportunities to work on branding, interactive design, ad campaigns, and motion graphics. While at Fluid he represented and presented his own work while interfacing with clients on a regular basis.

Itching for a change Spencer made a jump to working on cause-oriented entities at an agency called Boncom out of Salt Lake City. Boncom has been known to hire the best of the best. There he was able to learn from some of the most talented people in the industry. His responsibilities fell under a traditional designer’s role. This included working on large and small print and non-traditional installations around the world, as well as creating and maintaining brand standards for international campaigns and digital products. One of which was the visual design of vending machines converted to charitable “Giving Machines”. These Machines were placed around the globe as part of the #LightTheWorld campaign. Spencer has also been involved with the user experience and interface design of several digital products working with dev teams and clients.

Next, Spencer decided to try his hand at a few startups, looking to own and take responsibility of a brand and its development. He is always seeking out opportunities to improve the smallest of details.

His ideal situation would be to use his skills in supporting caused based organizations.

Like a lot of designers, full-time employment is not enough. Spencer and his wife run a tiny freelance LLC named Speckle Studio, where he concepted and designed a mobile app, which he sold, as well as developed several brands and UI styles for clients. Along with developed products of their own.

Spencer enjoys all types of media and loves trying new things from traditional design to high-tech and innovative platforms. Whatever the task, Spencer is a craftsman who values details, relations, and honesty.
